  • Typology: conversion of a barn into 5 flats

    Location: Thairy

    Owner: private

    File: GREG

    Phase: Project and authorisation

    Date: 2023

The land is generally flat and the unbuilt plots are covered with fruit trees. The building is in the second landscape row of the hamlet. It is divided into 4 sections under a single volume, which formerly included a dwelling on the ground floor and first floor, as well as a very large barn space for storing vehicles or animals and a partial floor for storing hay. Finally, the original barn has had a volume added at the top.

The project involves dividing the spaces and adding a floor level to the barn to create a block of 5 collective dwellings. On the ground floor there is a 3-room apartment opening onto the garden, and on the first floor there are three flats arranged around a staircase: a 3-room walk-through apartment, and two 3-room and 2-room flats with a double orientation. The top flats have a balcony overlooking the garden. Finally, in the attic there is a single 6-room flat covering the entire floor. The project involves renovating the building envelope to bring it up to current thermal standards and adding new openings, while respecting the harmony of the facades and retaining as many of the existing openings as possible. The emphasis is on preserving the molasse stone surrounds, to preserve the identity of the building and the village fabric.
